Allstars KADS

By Monica Leigh

We had a great time at the Allstars!!!!! Our Elders from Tamworth, Quirindi, Werris Creek & Walhollow enjoyed themselves so much and experienced a huge cultural event that many of them would never get the opportunity to do without the support of KADS social support group. We spent the day travelling to Queensland on the Friday with 2 buses, stopping to join for meals & breaks, we arrived at our destination around 5pm, got settled in our accommodation then all joined together for a BBQ dinner and a chat. On Saturday morning we all joined together to prepare for lunch which we had the pleasure of our local Oxley High school & Armidale High school boys from Clontarf Foundation join with our Elders to cook us a beautiful BBQ lunch and have a yarn with the Elders before setting off to the Allstars Event. Sunday we all travelled back together and arrived home around 5.30pm.

This was also a great opportunity for the young fellows to join with the Elders and build some self-esteem, ask questions and yarn about anything that they felt they wanted to know as they sometime don’t have that opportunity, and it was great to see them so relaxed and enjoying themselves that much that they have stayed in contact and want to join regularly to keep the contact with our Elders, they are also keen to join in with fundraising in the future hoping we can do this again.
